Midget Game Doubles as Big Brothers Fundraiser

2014-06-13

The Barrie Red Sox may have lost Wednesday night, but they were still satisfied with what they had accomplished.

Thanks to catcher Maveric Northcott, the midget ‘AAA’ baseball team played the game in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada, raising money through gate receipts, donations and raffles. The game was played at Schmidt and Shaw Stadium at the Barrie Community Sports Complex in Midhurst.

The team brought in $1,337 in donations while working towards a good cause. Rogers TV broadcasted the game with close to 200 spectators in attendance including many Barrie players and fans.

Mayor Jeff Lehman threw out the first pitch, and both teams wore T-shirts in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. The game itself didn’t go quite as planned for Barrie, which dropped a 5-1 decision to their long-time rivals, the Markham Mariners.
