First Barrie Minor Baseball Scholarship Award Winners

2014-08-24

Congratulations Eric Roy, Filip Siembida & Maveric Northcott!

Barrie Minor Baseball is pleased to announce its first scholarship award winners! The Association awarded three individual scholarships of $500 to recognize members with outstanding dedication to baseball, excellent character and significant community involvement.

Eric is a positive role model, whose sportsmanship and attitude has benefitted the teams he has been involved with. He has already obtained the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) level 1 certification, and has used his skills to help coach younger teams. Eric far exceeded the high school community involvement requirement by more than 10 times the required number of hours!

Filip has exemplified excellent character as a dedicated player who shows good sportsmanship and respect. He has participated in extra volunteer events over the years. Filip has an excellent academic record and graduated with honours, which is a significant achievement when one is a dedicated player at the rep level.

Maveric is a leader and role model on his team. Through the years he has continually volunteered by assisting other players and teams, and participating and organizing a variety of fundraising and charity events. Maveric organized a charity baseball game this year, which was well-attended by the community and raised approximately $1,200 for a local charity.

Association members born in 1996 and beginning their post-secondary studies at a university, college or trade school were invited to apply for these scholarship awards. Barrie Minor Baseball encourages its members to strive for educational success, and plans to continue offering scholarship awards in the future.
