Minor Bantams Win London Badgers AAA Tournament

The Barrie Red Sox IronKids Gummies Vitamins Minor Bantam AAA baseball team travelled to London to compete in the London Badgers Tournament over the weekend.

The weekend started with a terrific effort from Dalton Brownlee who threw a complete game four hit shutout against the Mississauga Twins.  Jan Siembida was 2/3 at the plate while Bryan Slade went 1/3 along with a couple of nice defensive plays in left.

 Saturday the Red Sox opened the day with a decisive 11-1 victory against the Peterborough Tigers.  Dylan Wood was 2/4 with a double and 4 RBI’s while Lucas Shepherd was 2/3 with a run scored.  The defense was flawless led by Shayne Twiss’ solid play at second base including an excellent catch of a tough line drive.  Saturday evening the Red Sox fell to the Vaughn Vikings 6-3.  Mason Walker continued his torrid hitting by extending his hit streak to seven games in the loss.

 In the semifinals Sunday morning the LaSalle Titans fell 8-4 to the Red Sox in a hard fought contest.  Matt Barr led the way pitching 5 innings with one earned run in the victory.  Jake Brennan was 2/3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s.

The final (against the Mississauga Majors) was a close baseball game that went back and forth until the late innings.  Darcy Maus was solid behind the plate including throwing out a key base stealer at third in the fifth inning.  With the score tied 3-3 in the sixth the Red Sox exploded for 4 runs.  Jonathan Balah capped the inning by crushing a bases clearing double to right.  Aiden Ament stole a double from the Majors with a terrific catch in center field that ensured momentum stayed with Barrie.  Jake Brennen secured the win with 3 terrific innings striking out 7 of the 11 batters he faced.  The final score was 9-3 for the Sox!

Congratulations to the Red Sox on an impressive weekend.  The team played excellent baseball with a total team effort for the tournament victory.
